OSTEOCHONDRAL FRAGMENTS IN THE PASTERN JOINT
09/06/2021
OSTEOCONDRAL FRAGMENTS (also known as "chips") are rare in the pastern joint (proximal interphalangeal), but when they appear they tend to degenerate the joint rapidly causing osteoarthritis, and subsequent uselessness of the horse. When these fragments are diagnosed early, they should be removed by arthroscopy as soon as possible so that the animal can continue with its sporting life and thus avoid osteoarthritis. We present a case of this type of fragments operated in our Hospital. The horse was perfectly diagnosed by his veterinarian, who referred him to us for surgery.
