Dr. José Leandro Méndez Angulo is originally from Córdoba, where he graduated in veterinary medicine in 2006 with an extraordinary award. He then moved to the United States for 6 years of intensive training. He first completed a 2-year internship (2007-2009) in equine medicine and surgery at Ohio State University, and then continued with a 3-year residency in Equine Surgery (2009-2012) and a Master's degree in equine rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota. He has been an American Diplomate Specialist in Large Animal Surgery (Dipl. ACVS-LA) since 2013, and also completed his doctoral dissertation on coagulation in horses in 2011.
He has worked as a professor at the Universities of Minnesota (USA) and Helsinki (Finland). As a researcher he has published more than 20 scientific articles in JCR indexed journals, and has presented more than 50 communications in national and international congresses related to equine medicine and surgery.
In 2018, José opened the doors of his reference hospital in La Carlota (Córdoba) where he works as a specialist in equine surgery and orthopedics for all of southern Spain and Portugal. Since 2012 he continues to collaborate with the University of Minnesota as an Adjunct Professor, where every year he travels to teach and develop research projects. He is currently the scientific director of the most important equine veterinary congress in Spain (SICAB, Seville), a position he has held since 2015. He also teaches numerous training courses every year to veterinarians and farriers all over Spain.
